About the Blue Stove (De Blauwe Kachel)

We are Gerrit Jan and Roeland, two brothers from a large family of five children. Ever since we were young, we travelled with our entire family, often during the autumn holidays, to Eastern France to enjoy the then still unexplored Jura. We often stayed in simple French hotels. Later, our parents took the step to buy a fantastic ‘fermette’ (French word for a small farm) in a hamlet about 60 km south of Besançon. That was more than 25 years ago and the fermette has remained in our family all that time. It is a wonderful base to get away from the hectic, busy life in the Netherlands and you can completely relax there. The house is characterized by simplicity. There is no luxury, no swimming pool and no central heating; the house is heated by two wood stoves. These wood stoves gave us the idea a while ago to do ‘something’ with it. We are both Francophiles, speak the language, have a base in France and find the old French, enamelled cast iron stoves a beautiful piece of brocante and industrial heritage. Within our French network we started looking for these types of stoves. We took them to the Netherlands, checked them thoroughly, replaced the mica (the panes in the stove) where necessary and carried out repairs if necessary. We also tested the stoves for use, of course. Safety comes first! The reactions in the Netherlands were overwhelming; the people we were able to make happy with a stove thought it was fantastic to bring a piece of French nostalgia into their home in this way.

Over time we realised that we could make even more people happy with the French stoves: the French owner (sometimes there is a whole story behind the stoves; they have often been in the family for generations), our ‘customers’ who bring a beautiful stove into their home and of course ourselves when someone leaves with a big smile on their face! Our passion, energy and enthusiasm led to the creation of our company “The Bleu Stove (De Blauwe Kachel)”. The name is a nod to the coach company “De Blauwe Vogel” that our grandfather founded in the 1920s. Many enthusiasts fall for the various shades of blue enamel in which many classic French stoves were made. A selection from the range: Chappée, Godin, Faure, de Dietrich, Arthur Martin and Deville. Of course we have various other brands and colours of stoves in our range. All stoves are in excellent technical condition, restored where necessary and each and every one tested against our strict standards. For the installation of your French classic stove, we work together with a certified and experienced installer, who will take care of the entire installation process for you.

The Blue Stove offers the possibility to convert a classic French stove into a bio-ethanol fired model. This has many advantages and is also an environmentally friendly solution (namely no or hardly any emissions), while you can still enjoy the traditional look and warmth of your stove. With this option you also do not have to install a flue, which is a great advantage. We would like to refer you to our bio-ethanol page, where you can read everything about this way of firing. bio-ethanol This has many advantages and is also an environmentally friendly solution (namely no or hardly any emissions), while you can still enjoy the traditional look and warmth of your stove. Enjoy our website and hopefully we may welcome you in our studio in Breda, where you can come and admire all the stoves.

Note: one of the other 'Marijnissen brothers' is also a passionate restorer. Not of old French stoves, but of classic clocks. He lives and works in Edinburgh (Scotland) where he runs his own studio.
